(KCF VII.B: Ensuring Safety) This class meets DHS Licensing training requirements for both Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and Abusive Head Trauma (AHT). Content includes recommendations to reduce Sudden, Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUID) including SIDS, suffocation, and other sleep related infant deaths; safe sleep environments; MN Child Care regulations related to safe sleep; as well as symptoms and consequences of abusive head trauma, risk factors for abusive head trauma; strategies to use when stressed, angry or frustrated.

(KCF VII.B: Ensuring Safety -- meets the Active Supervision requirement for licensing) Define MN DHS Rule 2 licensing standards regarding supervision in family child care settings. Examine and address the expectations for supervision in comparison to personal and cultural practices. Develop an individual plan for following practices of active supervision to keep children safe while they learn and grow in your child care program. |

(KCF II.E: Promoting Creative Development Discover that we all need more drama in our lives—dramatic play, that is. It is essential for children’s healthy development; it fosters cognitive, physical, social/emotional, and executive function skills such as self-regulation, language, and conflict resolution; and it’s fun! Learn how to encourage dramatic play with materials and activities that afford children the freedom to discover, problem-solve, and grow. From the grocery store to the fire station, the flower shop to the wild west, be inspired with fun and inexpensive ideas for more than 25 dramatic play themes that your children—and you—will love. 3:15-5:15 pm Busy Boxes
(KCF II.C: Promoting Social & Emotional Development) Encourage children’s love for learning with busy boxes! These open-ended, independent, educational, and engaging small activities make a big impact on children’s learning. They foster self-regulation, independence, focus, problem-solving abilities, and social and language skills. Children utilize creativity, literacy, hand-eye coordination, science and math exploration, and more. They are perfect quiet activities to use during nap time or during transitions. Be provided with tons of simple, inexpensive activity ideas! |

8:00-9:30am Sensory Tables that Teach!
Make the sensory table or sensory tubs center a place where students learn and thrive. Here students will practice various concepts when you intentionally plan and create sensory tables with enticing sensory fillers and tools. This session will highlight new sensory table fillers (food and non-food) to use in the classroom. Explore what tools and items you can add to the table to set up learning experiences in the areas of fine motor, math, literacy, STEM, and science. 9:45-11:15 GIANT Butcher Paper Activities Get Students out of their chairs, moving, learning, and collaborating using giant butcher paper learning activities and games. Butcher paper activities are large, low-prep activities students can do at a table on the floor to practice a math or literacy skill using manipulative you already have in your classroom like magnet letters, pompoms, and connecting cubes. This session will highlight many butcher paper activities for various themes, seasons, and learning objectives. 12:30- |
